I’m Maya Tee, owner of Twink Artistry by Maya Tee, a professional makeup artist based in Durham, NC, with over 11 years of experience. My passion for beauty started at a young age, watching my mother apply her makeup each morning. I would rush home from school just to experiment with her products before she returned from work. That early fascination blossomed into a lifelong love for the beauty industry.
In 2010, I took my first official step toward a career in beauty by enrolling in cosmetology classes at Hillside High School. By 2012, I had earned my cosmetology license from Holton Career Resource Center. After working in the beauty industry for two years—mainly focusing on hair—I realized that makeup was my true calling. My first paying client was a friend who admired my everyday makeup and asked me to do hers for a special event. Seeing her excitement and confidence after my work made me realize that makeup wasn’t just about artistry—it was about empowering women to feel their most beautiful selves.
